Alvernia Wins 1-0

BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2013) - Alvernia (6-1) used a second half goal from Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame) to defeat visiting Dickinson (3-2-1) by a score of 1-0 this afternoon in non-conference action at Alvernia.  Dickinson is currently ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll.

The game remained 0-0 through the first half, with the Red Devils out shooting Alvernia 7-0, and each team earning one corner kick.  Crusader goalkeeper Colleen Maher (Wall, NJ/Wall Township) tallied three saves in the first half to preserve the scoreless tie.

Verdel's goal came at 67:08 thanks to a cross from Bri McGrath (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow) that Verdel was able to delicately place past the Dickinson goalie for the only tally of the game.  This was Verdel's first goal of the season.

Each team managed five shots in the second half, while the Red Devils earned five corner kicks to Alvernia's two.

Maher needed two saves in the second half to post her fifth straight shut-out and run her shut-out streak to 476 minutes, a new record for Alvernia women's soccer.

Alvernia is back in action on Sat. Sept. 21st when they travel to DeSales for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00pm.
