Maher Sets Consecutive Shutout Mark

Browne Nets Game-Winner In Overtime

BOX SCORE

Center Valley, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2013) - Junior Shannon Browne (Independance, N.J./Hackettstown) scored an unassisted goal in the second minute of overtime and senior goalie Colleen Maher (Wall, N.J./Wall Township) needed just one save to record her sixth straight shutout and set the record for consecutive shutout minutes at 569:51 in a 1-0 win for Alvernia University (7-1) over DeSales University (4-2-2) Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer at DeSales.

Neither team mounted much pressure in the first half with just two total saves between the two goalies, but Alvernia ramped up the pressure in the second half forcing the DeSales keeper, Michelle Churchman, to make seven saves to send the game into overtime tied at 0-0.

Devon Reeves (Haddonfield, N.J./Paul VI) sent a free kick from near midfield into the box and the ball bounced over Churchman who turned and ran back to clear the ball off the line.  She turned to throw the ball out and threw it right to Browne who made the most of being in the right place at the right time.

Alvernia will travel to Penn State-Berks on Wednesday.
