Crusaders Settle For Tie At PSU-Berks

BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2013) - Alvernia (7-1-1) settled for a 1-1 draw this afternoon in non-conference action at cross-town rival PSU-Berks (5-2-1).  The Crusaders held the slight 19-17 advantage in shots through regulation and two overtimes, despite being outshot in overtime 7-4.

It was the Nittany Lions that struck first with a goal in the 48th minute from Simone Stewart - her seventh of the season.  Alvernia answered with the equalizer 20 minutes later when Bailey Stover (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) found Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College) off a corner kick and Gill fired a shot over the keeper's head.

Crusader goalkeeper Colleen Maher (Wall, NJ/Wall Township) surrendered just one goal, while tallying seven saves through the full 110 minutes of play.

Both teams had multiple scoring opportunities that they couldn't capitalize on throughout the match.  In the first minute of play, Gill drilled a shot off the cross bar, and had her shot in the 88th minute bang off the far post.  Laura Mauroschadt (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) had one taken away from her in overtime thanks to a sliding save from the PSU-Berks keeper.

Alvernia is back in action on Sat. Sept. 28th when they travel to Rosemont College for a non-conference game beginning at 1:00pm.
