#7 F&M Tops Alvernia, 2-0

Wunsch Saves 13 For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2013) - Seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall College (2-0) scored once in each half for a 2-0 win over Alvernia University (1-1) Wednesday evening in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

The Diplomats opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a goal from Lauren Eastman--assisted by Maria Guarisco.  They finished the scoring in the 51st minute when Meghan Barlow scored unassisted on a scramble in front of the Alvernia cage.

Alvernia junior Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) made 13 saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia's best chance to score came six minutes after the Diplomats' second goal.  The Crusaders were able to generate back-to-back penalty corners and freshman Margaret Wentzel (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) ripped a shot from the top of the circle off the outside of the cage.

After opening the season with a pair of home games, Alvernia hits the road to face Montclair State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
