Newman, Lantz Tag Six Kills Apiece

BOX SCORE

Annville, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2013) - Lebanon Valley College (4-1, 1-0) took a close-fought, opening set 25-21 on its way to a 3-0 win over Alvernia University (2-3, 0-1) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's volleyball action at LVC.

Alvernia had a team-high six kills apiece from Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and Brittany Lantz (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot).  Jamie Morris (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) finished with 18 assists.

The Crusaders ran off a string of four straight points in the opening set to pull within one, 16-15, but LVC responded with points on back-to-back plays to regain a three-point lead and the Crusaders couldn't put together another run.  Alvernia jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but LVC scored nine of the next 12 points and kept the Crusaders from back-to-back serves until a service error on the final point of the set.  The final set was all LVC from the start.  The hosts put together eight straight points for a 9-1 lead and didn't look back.

Alvernia opens the home schedule on Saturday with a tri-match hosting Albright and Penn State-Brandywine.
