BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2013) - Senoirs
Laura Mauroschadt (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) and
Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College) scored two goals apiece to lead Alvernia University (2-1) to a 4-0 win over Lancaster Bible College (0-1) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.
Senior goalie
Colleen Maher (Wall, N.J./Wall Township) needed just two saves to record her 11th career shutout and second of the season.
Mauroschadt got the scoring started early with a rebound goal in the game's first minute.Â
Jamie Dearie (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) directed a header off a corner kick that defelcted off the hands of the LBC keeper and Mauroschadt was there for the open-netter.
"I thought we scored maybe too early," said Alvernia head coach
Bill Bonewitz. "We seemed to think it might be easy from there and got out of what we do. We were able to regroup at the half and we settled into playing more of our possession style."
The Crusaders took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break then tallied twice in the first eight minutes of the second half.
Gill received a through ball from
Bailey Stover (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and beat the LBC keeper to the near post for a 2-0 lead in the 51st minute and Mauroschadt scored on a very similar play assisted by
Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame) in the 53rd minute.
Gill closed the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 84th minute firing a left-footed shot from outside the box into the upper corner.
Maher was never really threatened in 90 minutes. She moved into a tie for second place in career shutouts with Katie Einsel (2003-06), two off the career leader Kristen Kelley (2007-10).
Alvernia returns to action this Saturday when it plays host to Penn State-Altoona.
