Benton Goal Leads Alvernia Over PSU-Altoona

Junior Nets Her First Goal Of The Season For The Game-Winner

BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2013) - Junior Alexis Benton (Eastern Regional, NJ/Newberry College) scored the lone goal of the game at 36:21 to propel Alvernia (3-1) to a 1-0 victory over visiting PSU-Altoona (1-2) Saturday afternoon in non-conference action on Alvernia's turf field.

Despite being out shot 6-1 in the first half, it was Alvernia's one shot, from Benton that found the back of the net.  Benton was assisted by Shannon Browne (Independence, NJ/Hackettstown) who found the ball after a corner kick-in from Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame).  Benton's shot from the left side snuck past the Nittany Lion defender for her first tally of the season.

Alvernia came out stronger in the second half, out shooting the Nittany Lions 5-3 and earning four corner kicks.

Crusader goalkeeper Colleen Maher (Wall, NJ/Wall Township) recorded four saves over 90 minutes of play for her third shutout of the season.

Alvernia is back in action on Sept. 11th when they host King's College at 7:00pm.
