Dallas, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2014) - Alvernia University split a pair of matches at the Misericordia University Women's Volleyball Tri-match Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders fell 3-2 to the host Cougars in the opener then defeated New Jersey City University, 3-0, in the middle match of the day.
Alvernia took a 2-1 lead in the first match of the day before Misericordia scored a decisive 25-10 win in the fourth set to level the match. The Cougars went on to win the match with a 15-11 decision in the fifth set. Alvernia needed extra time for a 26-24 win over NJCU in the first set of their match then ran off 25-14 and 25-11 wins to sweep the match.

Liz Newman equalled her season high with 21 kills in the Misericordia match and racked up 14 in the second match.
Jamie Morris had 37 assists in the opener and another 26 vs NJCU.
Alvernia returns to the conference schedule at Lycoming on Tuesday.
