Reading, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2014) - Elmira College (4-5-2) netted a pair of second half goals in a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (5-8) Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.
The Eagles scored the first goal of the game on a penatly kick in the 73rd minutes, but the Crusaders answered back almost immediately with
Amber Scott driving home her first goal of the season in the 75th minute. Elmira jumped back in front four minutes later on an unassisted goal from Abby Saturni.
Alvernia applied pressure immediately following the goal with a pair of shots over the next two minutes, but
Taylor Landis's effort was wide of the target and
Hannah Mallets hit a shot just over the next. The Crusaders had one more look at the equalizer in the final seconds of play, but Landis was once again, just off the mark.
Alvernia dominated the time of possession in the first half, but couldn't capitalize on the scoreboard. The host Crusaders outshot the Eagles 8-0 over the first 45 minutes and held a 13-8 advantage in shots for the game.
Mallets had a header from right out in front of the cage that was cleared off the line by Elmira keeper Amanda Banner in the seventh minute of the game.Â
Amber Scott whistled a shot on target in the 28th minute that Banner was also able to handle, and
Shannon Browne tested banner in the 40th minute to no avail.
Freshman
Jessica Plunkett made a pair of saves for the Crusaders--both in the second half.
Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday with an important cross-town trip to Albright.
