Reading, Pa. (Oct. 16, 2014) - Albright College (7-6-1, 3-1) scored a goal in the 89th minute of play to take a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (5-9, 1-2) Thursday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's soccer action at Shirk Stadium.
The Lions opened the scoring on a corner kick in the 12th minute. Emily Souza received the corner and passed the Emily Diaz who burried the chance for her first goal of the season.
The Crusaders answered back with just over 15 minutes left in the game when
Taylor Landis found the back of the net on a header for her fifth goal of the season.Â
Shannon Browne played a long ball in from 35 yards out that struck the cross bar and was cleared out by the defense. Landis was in the right place at the right time snapping a header inside the far post to knot the score at 1-1.
Both teams had a shot over the next 10 minutes, but both times the netminders were up to the challenge.
Albright had a shot go wide with three minutes left in the game then with just more than a minute left, Diaz setup Lyra Biancamano for the game-winner.
Alvernia gets a day to prepare for LebanonValley College on Saturday at Alvernia.
