York, Pa. (Oct. 14, 2014) – Margaret Wentzel and
Natalie Messaros sparked the Crusader offense as Alvernia University (8-6) collected a 2-0 victory over York College (10-4) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Wentzel put the Crusaders on the board late in the first half. In the 32-minute mark, Wentzel gave Alvernia the 1-0 advantage as she redirected a shot from Messaros to find the left side of the net and her 14
th goal of the season.
Messaros and Wentzel switched roles in the second half to help the Crusaders extend their lead. 54 minutes into the contest, Wentzel slipped a pass from the left past York goalie Jessica Everett, finding Messaros on the backside for her 4
th goal of the year.
Erin Wunsch kept the Spartans scoreless, dishing out seven saves on the day, including a full extension stop midway through the first half.
With the win, the Crusaders handed York its first home loss of the season.
