Reading, Pa. (Oct. 7, 2014) - Widener University (4-5-2, 1-1) scored the game's only goal in the 10th minute for a 1-0 win over Alvernia University (5-7, 1-1) Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's soccer action on the Alvernia Turf Field.
The Pride found the net in its second shot on the night. After missing on a shot just 30-seconds prior, Widener lifted its second attempt to the upper right corner just out of the reach of goalie
Jessica Plunkett, giving Lauren Wilson her first goal of the season.
Alvernia led Widener in shots and corner kicks in both halves, but couldn't net the equalizer. The Crusaders made a strong second-half effort, getting off four shots in the final 10 minutes, with two from the foot of
Taylor Landis. However, both attempts were saved by Widener goalie Olivia Pfautz.
It's the fourth time this season the Crusaders have been on the short end of a 1-0 decision and the fifth 1-goal loss of the season.
Alvernia hits the road on Thursday, taking on Gwynedd Mercy in non-conference play.
