Arcadia Comeback Stuns Alvernia, 71-68

Cooper Scores 23 To Lead Crusaders

Glenside, Pa. (Dec. 3, 2014) - Arcadia University (4-3, 2-0) put together a 23-4 run to close the game and steal a 71-68 win from Alvernia University (4-3, 0-2) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action at Alumni Gymnasium.

Kirby Turner scored on layup assisted by Lamont Clark with just under nine minutes left to play that put the Crusaders up 64-48.  The Crusaders went cold from the floor hitting just 2-of-11 shots with six turnovers as the Knights completed the comeback.

Arcadia cut the gap to one point, 66-65 with 2:47 to play, but Turner scored on a layup to push the lead back to three points.  A minute later, Joe Brown scored on a layup for the Knights to pull back within a point.  Alvernia ran the shot clock down on the next possession and Charles Cooper was off the mark on a long 3.  Brown scored on the break at the other end to give Arcadia the lead, and Clark missed a driving layup for the Crusaders with seven seconds to go.

Arcadia hit two free throws with four seconds left, and Harrison Deyo had a look at the tie from 30 feet but was off the mark.

Cooper finished with a game-high 23 points, Mike Miller scored 15 points, and Turner added 10.  Arcadia put four players in double figures led by Travis Sultus who scored 18.

Alvernia is off for finals week and will travel to Immaculata on Dec. 18.
