BOX SCORE Hackettstown, N.J. (Aug. 30, 2014) - Drew University (1-1) got three unassisted goals from Emma Campbell in a 4-0 win over Alvernia University (0-2) in the consolation game of the Centenary Classic Women's Soccer Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Campbell scored twice in the first half, and completed the hat trick in the 74th minute. A pair of Drew goalies and two defenders combined for 13 saves as the Crusaders racked up plenty of offensive chances leading to 13 shots on frame.
"Saturday's consolation game versus Drew was far from the posted score of 4-0," said Alvernia head coach
Bill Bonewitz. "We were able to control the majority of play putting up 23 shots on Ranger keeper Sara Nash with 13 of those on net, but were still unable to crack the scoreboard."
Alvernia was led by
Taylor Smith with four shots on goal and
Hannah Mallets and
Taylor Landis each had three each on frame. In addition to out shooting the Rangers 23 to nine, the Crusaders also led in corners kicks 11 to five, but again came away goalless for the second straight day. Alvernia's Maggie Burnett and Jess Plunkett shared time in net and each posted one save.
"We have a few days to work on the positives taken away from the weekend," continued Bonewitz. "We look forward to facing Lancaster Bible--a team we have never lost to--on the road before opening the home schedule Saturday in the Crusader Classic facing St. Mary's of Maryland."
