Lower Gwynedd, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2014) - Gwynedd-Mercy College (2-2) scored twice in the final six minutes of play to steal a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (2-3) Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at GMC.
The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead on
Emily Kelly's rebound goal late in the first half, and had a pair of shots on net over the first 20 minutes of the second half, but both were turned aside by GMC goalie Kelly Kruk.
Alvernia then put together a flurry of shots over a 40-second span with Kruk making four saves to keep the Griffins within a goal.
The Crusaders whistled two shots wide over the next eight minutes then following a restart the Griffins were able to tie the game on an unassisted goal by Brianna O'Connell. Kruk made another save following an Alvernia corner play with two minutes to play and Katie O'Neill netted the game-winner with 90 seconds left in the game.
The Crusaders finally get a home game on Wednesday when they host Eastern University at 7:00 p.m.
