Reading, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2014) - Alvernia University (4-3) scored once in each half for a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Camden (2-4) Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.
Taylor Landis opened the scoring by finishing off a scrum in front of the Camden cage. It was her fourth goal of the season and third in the last three games.
"I thought we got an exceptional effort from
Taylor Landis today," said Alvernia head coach
Bill Bonewitz. "In addition,
Bailey Stover and
Kristen Eckert did a great job generating turnovers in the midfield and
Amber Scott was solid in the back line."
Alvernia took the 1-0 lead deep in to the second half before
Taylor Smith converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute for some breathing room.
"We did a great job of keeping possession for probably 40 minutes in the second half," continued Bonewitz. "We allowed a little too much possession for Rutgers in the first half, but really turned it up after halftime and kept pressure on their back line."
The Crusaders hit the road for a pair of contests against Centennial Conference teams, Dickinson on Wednesday then Ursinus on Saturday.
