Reading, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2014) - Alvernia University (5-4-1) scored three second-half goals and freshman goalie
Zach Rider made four saves for his fifth shutout of the season as the Crusaders blanked Neumann University (0-7-1) by a 3-0 final Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.
The Knights--who have made a habit of low-scoring affairs already this season--kept the Crusaders to just four shots in the first half, but Alvernia finally broke through 15 minutes into the second half.
Senior
Joe Raymond setup
Rocky Elgogari for the first goal of the game then Elgogari payed it forward to
Cody Shirk for a quick 2-0 lead in the 60th minute.
Neumann was able to generate just two more shots over the next 25 minutes with Rider collecting one and the other sailing wide.
The Knights were given a yellow card for a play in the box in the 87th minute and senior
Josh Wollaston burried the penalty kick for the final score.
Alvernia hits the road to open the Commonwealth Conference schedule next Saturday at defending champion Lycoming.
