Lancaster, Pa. (Sept. 3, 2014) - Senior
Shannon Browne scored two goals and Alvernia University (1-2) defeated Lancaster Bible College (0-2) by a 3-0 final Wednesday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at LBC.
The Chargers had the best early chance with a breakaway in the first half, but Alvernia freshman
Jessica Plunkett made an aggressive challenge off the goal line to snuff out the chance and keep the game scoreless.
Alvernia sophomore
Taylor Landis put the Crusaders on the board with an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute and the Crusaders enjoyed a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.
Browne--who recorded her first career multi-goal game--scored on a pass from
Bailey Stover in the 56th minute and put the Crusaders up 3-0 with a goal from
Devon Reeves just three minutes later.
"We're starting to come together at a good time," said Alvernia head coach
Bill Bonewitz after the win. "The offense is espeically starting to click, with 23 shots today after 19 in our second game this past weekend."
Along with Browne as the offensive star of the game, Bonewitz praised the effort from Stover. "I thought she controled the game well," he said of the sophomore. "Both at the offensive midfield position and as an outside defender."
Plunkett finished with nine saves in net for the Crusaders to record her first career shutout.
The Crusaders open up the home schedule against St. Mary's College on Saturday in the opener of their own home tournament.
