Reading, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2014) - Alvernia University (3-1) got goals from senior
Alex Martyn and freshman
Rocky Elgogari in a 2-0 shutout of Wilkes University (1-4) Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.
Freshman goalie
Zach Rider needed just one save for the shutout, but is now 3-1 with all three wins coming by shutout.
Martyn opened the scoring in the 12th minute with his third goal of the season. Fellow senior
Josh Wollaston played a free ball through the wall from about 25 yards out. Martyn found the ball at his feet as he crashed toward the net and he buried the opportunity.
Elgogari added the insurance goal 12 minutes later. This time it was
RJ Fisher who slotted a ball to Martyn on the left wing. His one-time pass found Elgogari crashing the net and he tallied from point blank range.
Alvernia finished with a 11-6 advantage in shots. Wilkes keeper Patrick Loube recorded five saves.
The Crusaders take on regional power York College on Wednesday.
