Reading, Pa. (Jan. 21, 2015) - Albright College sophomore Shannon Thomas scored on a jumper just before the final buzzer to give the Lions (13-4, 7-1) a 70-68 win over Alvernia University (6-10, 2-6) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.
The Crusaders tied up the game at 68-all on a driving layup from
Kaitlyn Yoh with six seconds remaining. The Crusaders faced a 12-point deficit, 60-48 with 7:42 left to play, and finally erased it on Yoh's layup, only to see the Lions push the ball the other way and knock down the game-winner.
Alvernia had a five point lead early in the first half and saw Albright take a 34-29 lead into the halftime break.
The Lions pushed the second half lead to as many as 13 points, 49-36, and had the 12-point lead with under eight minutes to play after jumper by Emily O'Donnell.
Albright got a a game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds from Kelecia Harris. Yoh led the Crusaders with 18 points.
Albright shot 50 percent from the 3-point arc (5-10), including a 3-3 effort from Jessica Venturelli.
Tyra Roberts scored 14 points for the Crusaders,
Stevie Fortna added 12, and
Mya Lobb scored 11.
Alvernia continues the conference schedule on Saturday at Lycoming.
