Selinsgrove, Pa. (Jan. 31, 2015) - Susquehanna University (15-4) put together an 11-2 run midway through the second half to build a 14-point lead en route to a 64-54 win over Alvernia University (6-13) Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action at Houts Gymnasium.
Susquehanna held a 38-33 lead with 13:37 to play in the game and built on that with a 3 from Angie Shedler. Alvernia answerd on a layup from
Morgan Downs, but Susquehanna scored eight in a row to build the 49-35 lead with 9:41 to play.
Alvernia got 16 points from
Mya Lobb and 11 points and 13 rebounds from
Tyra Roberts. Susquehanna put three players in double figures led by a game-high 18 points from Jonaida Williams.
Alvernia got off to a great start leading by six on two seperate occasions in the early going. Williams hit a 3 for Susquehanna with just under nine minutes on the first half clock that gave the hosts the lead for good.
Alvernia returns to the conference schedule on Wednesday when it hosts Messiah College for a women's and men's doubleheader.
