Turnovers Costly In Alvernia's 58-53 Loss To Hood

Hood Scores 23 Points Off 18 Alvernia Turnovers

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 7, 2015) – Hood College (6-7, 2-2) scored 23 points off 18 turnovers and held on for a 58-53 win over Alvernia University (5-6, 1-3) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

The Blazers forced six turnovers during a 4-minute, 17-0 run that put them up 43-29 with 14:24 left to play, but Alvernia righted the ship and came storming back.

Mike Miller knocked down a 3 to cut the gap to 11 and Lamont Clark followed with a fastbreak layup.

Reggie Daniels hit a bit 3 for Hood, but Alvernia answered with a free throw from Harrison Deyo and back-to-back 3s from Chuck Cooper and Miller to cut the gap to five, 46-41 with 10:25 to go.

A layup from Deyo at 7:03 pulled the Crusaders to within a possession and another fastbreak layup from Clark at 3:18 finally knotted the game at 52-all.

Hood rallied with a pair of offensive rebounds on the next possession that led to a tip-in from James Brown.

Clark hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line to pull back within one, and the Crusaders forced a Hood turnover, but couldn't get the ball in bounds from the baseline.

Hood got a quick layup to push back up three and the Crusaders missed two 3s on the final possessions.

Deyo finished with 15 points and nine rebounds for the Crusaders.  Clark and Miller scored 12 points apiece.  Hood put three players in double figures led by Chris Cook who scored 16.

Alvernia hits the road for a rematch of last year's conference final at Stevenson on Saturday.
