Late Rally Not Enough As Crusaders Fall 4-3

Annville, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2015) - Alvernia University (7-5, 1-2) came up just short in a second half rally, falling 4-3 to Lebanon Valley College (7-5, 3-0) in MAC Commonwealth action Saturday evening at LVC.

Down 3-0 entering the second half, the Crusaders generated solid offense to the open the half, netting their first goal of the day in just over a minute. Given the corner opportunity, Melanie Lowry took the insert from Summer Liberto and quickly passed it off to Natalie Messaros. Messaros made of the most of the set up, driving in her first of the season to cut the Dutchmen lead 3-1.

Messaros struck again in the 52nd minute, capitalizing again on a corner. Emily Kelly delivered the insert this time, finding Messaros on the left side of the circle for her second of the night to bring the Crusaders within one.

Alvernia kept its momentum going, connecting on the equalizer four minutes later. Alexis Krall ripped a hard shot from just inside the circle on the right side, which rocketed past Dutchmen goalie Kendra Moll to square the game 3-3.

LVC picked up the game winner with just over three minutes left in the game as the Dutchmen ended on the fortunate end of a corner when a shot deflected off another Dutchmen stick over the left shoulder of Crusaders goalie Rebecca Brosious.

Lebanon Valley collected three goals across the first half to take the early 3-0 lead. The Crusaders managed just three shots in the opening 35 minutes.

Alvernia dominated the offensive categories in the second half, holding an overwhelming 15-3 advantage in shots and 9-3 margin in corners.

Brosious compiled four saves in goal for the Crusaders.

Alvernia takes to the road again on Thursday, traveling to Marywood University for non-conference competition.
