Morristown, N.J. (Oct. 10, 2015) - Alvernia University (11-12) needed a come-from-behind victory in the opening match of they day then ran off a 3-set sweep to take both matches at the College of St. Elizabeth women's volleyball tri-match Saturday.
The Crusaders won their opening set against St. Elizabeth then fell behind 2-1 as the hosts won consecutive sets. Alvernia leveled the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set then took the match with an impressive 15-7 win in the fifth and deciding set. In its second match, Alvernia opened quickly with a 25-12 win over the Culinary Institure of America and swept the match with 25-20 and 25-21 wins.
Freshman
Emily Smith led the offense in the opening match with 12 kills. Five different players racked up at least five kills in the match.
Abby O'Donnell handed out 27 assists in the first match and Alex Stroia led the defense with 16 digs.
Smith reached double digits in kills in the second match too leading the team with 10. O'Donnell finished with 16 assists and
Melissa Abramson had a team-high 13 digs.
The Crusaders look to get back to .500 when they host Lycoming College on Wednesday.
