Reading, Pa (Oct. 17, 2015) – Lycoming College (8-7,1-4) netted three second half goals to seal a 4-1 win over Alvernia University (3-11-1, 1-3) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Women's Soccer action at Alvernia.
The Crusaders came out aggressive, posting their lone goal five minutes into the game.
Johnna Shank made the most of her breakaway, winning an offensive exchange with Lycoming goalie Helen Ross to put Alvernia up 1-0.
The Warriors squared things up with less than five minutes left in the half, banking their first goal of the day off the left post into the goal.
Lycoming gave itself distance throughout the second half, notching the game winner in the 51st minute and adding two insurance goals in the 73rd and 79th minutes.
Alvernia had other close scoring opportunties throughout the day. Shank came up just short in the 29th minute as her shot hit off the post.
Hannah Mallets had a close call six minutes later, that was kept out by a defensive block.
Madison Balga also feel victim to the Warriors defensive, which blocked her solid shot attempt in the 57th minute.
Jessica Plunkett took the loss in the net for the Crusaders, collecting eight saves on the day.
Alvernia returns to competition Wednesday, continuing its conference schedule as it faces Hood College on the road at 4:00.
