Chester, Pa. (Oct. 27, 2015) - Alvernia University (5-12-1, 3-4) connected on three second half goals to secure a 3-1 victory over Widener University (5-10-1, 1-6) Tuesday evening in MAC Commonwealth action at Widener.
After a scoreless first half, Alvernia netted its first of the evening just four minutes into the second half. At 29:04,
Johnna Shank took the pass from
Kayla McNamee and drove it hard at the Pride's keeper. Shank's shot was too much for the goalie, ricocheting into the net for her ninth of the season.
Bailey Stover gave the Crusaders the 2-0 advantage ten minutes later. Accepting the long pass from Shank, Stover took on the Pride's goalkeeper one on one and came out victorious, notching her third of the year.
Alvernia added some additional insurance in the 82nd minute as
Melissa Stahl put the Crusaders up 3-0. Stahl led a breakaway for the Crusaders, driving in her second of the season.
Widener netted its lone goal with just under a minute left in regulation, cutting down the Alvernia margin 3-1.
The Crusaders held the offensive advantage on the evening, outshooting the Pride 17-12 and leading in corner kicks 6-4.
Jessica Plunkett earned the win in goal for Alvernia, gathering nine saves.
The Crusaders close out their regular season on Saturday, traveling to Messiah for MAC Commonwealth action. If the Crusaders collect a win against the Falcons, they will secure the #5 seed in the MAC Championship tournament. Game time for Saturday is set for 5:00.
