Reading, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2015) - Alvernia University (7-4) used two first half goals to lift it to a 2-1 victory over King's College (9-4) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.
The Crusaders took to the board first, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
Melanie Lowry drove the set up from the right side of the goal through the middle to the opposite post, right to the stick of
Paige Epler who tapped in her first of the season.
Alvernia extended its lead seven minutes later, using the same tactic as the first goal but with
Malorie McCoy providing the assist for
Margaret Wentzel, who picked up her 16th of the season.
King's refused to be shut out, closing the gap 2-1 six minutes into the second half.
The Monarchs fired off four more shots in second half, but the Crusaders defense was flawless to close out the game, using two saves by goalie
Rebecca Brosious and a defensive save by
Alexis Krall to maintain the Alvernia lead.
Alvernia continues its season on Saturday, traveling to Lebanon Valley College for MAC Commonwealth Conference action. Game start is set for 6:00 pm.
