Liberto's Double OT Game-Winner Sends #7 Alvernia to ECAC Semifinal

Allentown, Pa. (Nov. 11, 2015) - Senior Summer Liberto netted her tenth of the season 3:21 into the second overtime leading seventh-seeded Alvernia University (13-7) to a 2-1 victory over #2 Muhlenberg College (11-7) Wednesday evening in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Championships at Muhlenberg.

The Muhls connected on their lone goal eight minutes into the contest. On its first corner opportunity of the night, Laura Holdman drove the set up by Rachel Strow from the top of the circle.

The Crusaders refused to go into the half with a deficit, tying things 1-1 in the 27th minute. Margaret Wentzel was determined to give Alvernia the equalizer, collecting her own rebound and driving in her 28th of the year.

The second half saw strong offense at both ends of the half, with the Muhls firing off four shots in the first six minutes, and the Crusaders launching two in the final six, yet neither team was able to convert.

Alvernia kept its momentum going into the first overtime, holding a 6-2 advantage in shots. Unable to put away the go ahead in the first overtime, the Crusaders capitalized on their first chance in the second overtime. In the 88th minute, Liberto found a gap in the Muhls defense, securing her ground on the left post to receive the pass from Wentzel on the right side and lock up the win for Alvernia

Rebecca Brosious finished the night with 6 saves in goal for the Crusaders.
