Summer Liberto drove in two second half goals to lead Alvernia University (14-7) to a 2-1 victory over FDU-Florham (15-8) Saturday morning in ECAC semifinals action at Fairleigh Dickinson.
After a scoreless first half, Liberto notched her first tally in the 54th minute. On just her second shot of the day, Liberto knocked in a rebound to put the Crusaders ahead 1-0.
Liberto did not waste much time before netting her second on the day, putting Alvernia up 2-0 just a minute and half later. After FDU managed a defensive save, Liberto followed up her own attempt, pushing in the second effort from the front of the net for her 12th of the season.
The Devils closed the gap just before the 58-minute mark, but a pair of saves by goalie
Rebecca Brosious across the last 11 minutes solidified the Crusaders win.
Alvernia posted nine shots on goal on the day. Joining Liberto in the offensive attack were
Margaret Wentzel,
Andrea Wysocki, and
Natalie Messaros.
Brosious collected the win in the net with three saves.
The Crusaders return to the turf tomorrow, competing in their fourth ECAC final. Alvernia will take on #4 Stevenson at 3:00 p.m. Â Alvernia defeated Stevenson--a MAC Commonwealth opponent--4-3 in overtime during the regular season.
