Ringer Sends Crusaders To ECAC Final

Freshman Scores Only Goal Of The Game

Erie, Pa. (Nov. 13, 2015) - Freshman Jay Ringer scored the only goal of the game and #7 Alvernia University (9-7-5) advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Region Championship with a 1-0 win over #3 Geneva College (13-5-4) Saturday evening at Penn State-Behrend.

Ringer took a feed from Nick Bombard in the 18th minute a snuck a shot inside the left post.  Ringer--who assisted on both goals in Alvernia's 2-1 quarterfinal win--has now scored or assisted on all three goals for the Crusaders in ECAC play.

Sophomore goalie Zach Rider made two saves--both in the second half--to preserve the shutout.

Wind and rain whipped across the Behrend field all evening with both teams having a distint advantage with the wind.  Alvernia posted four of its six shots on the game in the first half working with the wind while Geneva had all five of its shots registered in the second half.

Alvernia will face top-seeded and final four host PSU-Behrend in the championship on Saturday at 3:00.  The Crusaders are now 3-0 in ECAC play on the Behrend field having defeated Behrend 2-0 in the 2012 semifinal before winning the title with a 2-1 double overtime win over Marywood at Behrend in the final.
