Allentown, Pa. (Nov. 21, 2015) - Muhlenberg College (2-2) hit 10 out of 15 3s and was plus-27 in rebounding in an 81-70 win over Alvernia University (3-2) Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Scotty Wood Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Mules held a 64-62 lead with five minutes to play before putting together an 11-1 run to pull away. The hosts went 4-for-4 from the floor and hit a pair of free throws while the Crusaders went cold missing all five shots they took from the floor.
Muhlenberg had four players reach double figures led by Jon Shreer who went 6-for-8 from the arc and led all players with 22 points. Alvernia sophomore
Mike Miller scored a team-high 20 points for the Crusaders.
All five Muhlenberg starters had at least one offensive rebound as the Mules collected 15 second chances in the game.
Alvernia had a five point lead on two occasions in the first half and held a 43-39 lead at the break.
George Sapp and Miller hit back-to-back 3s to start the second half and the Crusaders had their largest lead of the game 49-41 with 17:33 left.
Schreer answered with a 3 and five minutes later Nick Rindock scored layups on concecutive possessions to give the Mules the lead. The teams traded mini runs until Muhlenberg's 11-1 stretch.
Alvernia continues the non-conference schedule at Penn State-Berks on Tuesday.
