Alvernia Finishes 54-46 Win Over Washington & Lee

Crusaders Score Final 13 Points

Daytona Beach, Fl. (Dec. 20, 2015) - Alvernia University (5-4) held Washington and Lee (3-5) off the scoreboard for the final 6:21 and finished the game on a 13-0 run for a 54-46 win Sunday morning in women's basketball action at the Daytona Beach Shooting.

W&L had a 42-35 lead after three quarters of play then scored on a layup with 6:21 to go for a 46-41 lead but went 0-for-14 from the floor with three turnovers down the stretch.

Alvernia took a 47-46 lead at 3:13 on a layup from Tyra Roberts.  Freshman Miranda Hoover knocked down jumpers on back-to-back possessions to give Alvernia a 51-46 lead with two minutes to play and the Crusaders hit three free throws for the final score.

Roberts finished with a monster double-double scoring 21 points to go with a career-high-tying 17 rebounds.  Emily Perszyk led the Generals with 14 points.

Alvernia managed just 10 points in each of the first two quarters while Washington & Lee posted quarters of 15 and 16 for a 32-20 lead at the break.  Alvernia cut four points off the deficit with a 15-11 third quarter then exploded for 19 points in the fourth while holding the Generals to just four.

Alvernia continues the Daytona Beach Shooting playing Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 10 Monday morning.
