Colin Rothweiler scored with 1:20 left in the first overtime period to give Alvernia University (1-1) an 11-10 win over Neumann University (0-1) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia.
The Crusaders scored the final two goals of regulation to tie the game at 10-all to force overtime.
Zach Brommer scored to make the score 10-9 and Ben Manning netted his fourth goal of the game with 2:20 left to level the score.
Neumann scored the first two goals of the game and neither team had a lead larger than two until Neumann stormed out of halftime with four straight goals to take an 8-5 lead.
Alvernia answered with back-to-back goals from
Thomas Warwick and Manning to pull within one and needed a goal from
Jordan Ludwig with nine seconds left in the third to stay within a goal at 9-8.
Neumann scored midway through the fourth for a 10-8 lead before Alvernia closed the scoring with the last three goals of the game.
Freshman
Mason Etier was solid in net for the Crusaders making 14 saves in the win.
The Crusaders went 14-24 on faceoffs—
Alex Evans led the way going 10-for-16—and were successful on 14-of-20 clear attempts including two in overtime.
Kyle Farrell scored twice for Alvernia joining Manning with multi-goal games. Neumann had three players net at least a pair led by Ron Lassiter who scored three.
Alvernia hits the road for a spring break trip next week and will travel to Greensboro College on Wednesday and face Methodist University on Friday.
