Benjamin Manning scored all three of his goals during a 7-goal third quarter and Alvernia University (3-3) pushed a 3-2 halftime lead out to a 10-2 lead on its way to an 11-3 win over Alfred State (0-2) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia.
The Crusaders got a hat trick from
Colin Rothweiler in the first half to build the halftime lead. Rothweiler scored the first goal of the game just over two minutes in, but the Pioneers scored the last two goals of the first quarter for a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes.
Rothweiler scored on the man advantage assisted by
Matt Saxon to tie the game at 2-2 early in the second quarter then put the Crusaders ahead 3-2 assisted by
Zach Brommer with just more than five minutes left before halftime.
Brommer scored the first goal of the third quarter to double the lead then Manning doubled it again with back-to-back unassisted tallies.Â
Kyle Farrell scored midway through the third quarter and the Crusaders added three goals in the final two minutes of the quarter.Â
Brian Schay netted the first, Manning the second, and
Thomas Warwick's unassisted tally just before the end of the quarter put the Crusaders up eight, 10-2.
Both teams scored a goal in the final quarter for the 11-3 final.
Mason Etier made 11 saves to earn the win.Â
Billy Tharp played the final four minutes and collected one save.
Alvernia continues the non-conference schedule Wednesday hosting Rosemont.
