Reading, Pa. (Mar. 18, 2015) - Alvernia University (3-4) scored just after the final horn falling just short in a 7-6 loss to Rosemont College (1-4) Wednesday evening in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia.
The Ravens scored three goals in the second quarter to open up a 5-2 lead at the halftime break.
Alvernia got an even strength goal from
Brian Schay to pull within two then with the Ravens taking four penalties in the quarter, the Crusaders' extra man attack went to work leveling the score at 5-5 with 3:33 left in the 3rd on man-up goals from Schay and
Benjamin Manning.
Rosemont won the ensuing faceoff--the Ravens won 14-of-16 on the night--and got a goal from Stephen Lecata with 2:11 left in the quarter. They tacked on an insurance goal a second before the horn ending the third quarter to take a 7-5 lead into the fourth.
Schay's third goal of the game came shorthanded with just better than nine minutes left in the game to pull the Crusaders back within one, but neither team scored the rest of the way.
Alvernia generated a few chances on the final possession, and looked to have the equalizer in a scramble just outside the crease, but the shot was ruled after the horn.
Freshman goalie
Mason Etier recorded 11 saves in net for the Crusaders.
Alvernia finishes up the non-conference schedule on Saturday hosting Bryn Athyn College at 1:00 p.m.
