Reading, Pa. (Apr. 11, 2015) - Alvernia University (6-5, 2-3) used a steady string of offense to guide its to a 15-2 victory over Hood College (2-8, 0-4) Wednesday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference action on the Alvernia Turf Field.
The Crusaders jumped on the board at the game's start, posting their first goal less than 30-seconds into the game off the stick of
Julie Sutton. Sutton struck again twice before the midway point of the half, notching goals around a netter by
Candace Knight to put Alvernia up 4-0.
Angel Adams stretched the lead to 5-0, and
Jacquelyn Strange ripped back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 7.
The Blazers put up their only goal of the first half at the eight minute mark, but Adams used a pass from Knight to give the Crusaders the 8-1 margin going into the half.
Alvernia did not let up in the second half as Adams and Sutton picked up their third and fourth goals of the day to pull the Crusaders ahead 10-1. Hood collected its second goal of the day to cut the lead 10-2, but Alvernia would post five more goals to end the game. Strange netted her 26th of the season, while
Abby McCarthy notched three in a row.
Samantha Marino locked in the final goal for the Crusaders for the 15-2 win.
Strange's third goal of the day puts her at a 100 goal milestone for her career.
The Crusaders outshot Hood 31-17, with the Alvernia defense forcing 27 turnovers out of the Blazers.
Colleen Reilly and
Kallie Taylor split time for the Crusaders in goal, with Reilly picking up the win on three saves and Taylor collecting five saves.
Alvernia returns to the turf on Wednesday, hosting Stevenson University in Commonwealth Conference action.
