Reading, Pa. (Apr. 16, 2015) - Freshman starter
Tim Carfrey threw seven innings without giving up a hit and senior closer
Kevin Becker-Menditto nailed down his 12th save of the season as Alvernia University (23-8) squeezed by Penn State-Berks (8-14-1) by a 2-1 final Thursday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Angelica Park.
The Crusaders scored a run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Cameron Coons then took a 2-0 lead with a sac fly from
Vinny Case in the third.
Matt Osgoodby took over for Carfrey in the eighth with the freshman starter going over 100 pitches. The Lions got a single and a triple in the inning to cut the Alvernia lead in half, but Osgoodby stranded the potential tying run at third with a fly ball to center.
Becker-Menditto got a pair of groundouts and a strikeout for a 1-2-3 ninth.
Alvernia returns to the conference schedule on Friday at Albright College.
