Allentown, Pa. (Apr. 23, 2015) - Moravian College (16-16) scored six runs in the home half of the third inning on its way to a 16-4 win over Alvernia University (26-10) Thursday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Gillespie Field.
The Crusaders opened the scoring in the top of the third when
Chris Burns launched a 2-run homer, but the Greyhounds quickly erased that deficit and starting to work on the lead sending 10 batters to the plate in a 6-run inning.
Moravian went ahead 8-2 before Alvernia show a little sign of life with another 2-run inning to cut the gap to 8-4 in the sixth, but the hosts answered with three in the bottom of the sixth to push ahead 11-4.
Nick Liaci took the loss giving up eight runs in four innings. Burns and reserve
Ben Dubas had the only multi-hit games of the day both collecting two.
Alvernia returns to conference action Friday at Arcadia University. The Crusaders have already locked up the top seed for the Commonwealth Championships which begin next Thursday at Santander Stadium in York.
