Reading, Pa. (Apr. 6, 2015) - Alvernia University (17-8, 9-3) completed the 3-game sweep of Hood College (5-16, 0-12) taking both ends of the doubleheader Monday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference baseball actino at Angelica Park.
Dillon Dunne went 4.2 innings in the opener as the Crusaders started with a 6-1 win.Â
Craig Mellinger got the win in relief in game two, a 9-1 decision.
Alvernia scored three runs in the first inning of game one on singles from
Ben Sawyer and
Zach Nadolny, then scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth. Saywer provided the run in the sixth with a solo homer, his sixth home run of the season. He finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks.
Hood opened the scoring in the second game with a run in the top of the first, but Alvernia quickly went back in front quickly when Sawyer crushed his second homer in as many at-bats, a two-run shot.
The Crusaders went up 6-1 with four runs in the third inning.Â
Cameron Coons,
Mike Cunningham, and
Brok Martin all had RBIs in the frame. Coons was 2-for-3 with three RBIs in game two,
Chris Burns was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Joe IacoBellis was 2-for-2 with three runs.
Alvernia continues the season hosting Haverford College on Wednesday.
