Reading, Pa (Apr. 8, 2015) - Alvernia University (5-5, 1-3) fell 10-7 to cross town rival Albright College (8-4, 2-2) in Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday evening at Alvernia's Turf Field.
The Crusaders were on the board first as
Julie Sutton found the net less than two minutes into the game to give Alvernia the 1-0 advantage.
The Lions quickly responded, tying things less than 20-seconds later and extending their lead to 3-1 by the midpoint of the first half.
Alvernia would strike again, cutting Albright's margin to one as
Jacquelyn Strange netted her first of the night with just under four minutes left in the half. The Lions pushed their lead to 4-2, but the Crusaders would have the final say. Just before the halftime buzzer,
Brooke Campione ripped her first of the night to keep Alvernia within one at 4-3.
Albright jumped ahead in the second half, collecting three goals for the 7-3 lead. Alvernia answered with a run of its own as Strange and Campione paired up to cut the Crusader's deficit down to 7-5.
The Lions would put together another string of goals, taking a 10-5 lead into the final ten minutes of play.
The Crusaders continued to create offense, posting two more goals before the end of play.
Alexandria Leddy, a key defender for the Crusaders, netted her first goal of the season and Strange picked up her third of the night, bringing Alvernia within three at 10-7.
Colleen Reilly recorded 15 saves in the net.
Alvernia continued Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday, hosting Hood College at 1:00.
