Summer Liberto scored on a penalty stroke nine minutes into overtime to give Alvernia University (3-3) a 2-1 win over Wilkes University (4-3) Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Wilkes.
Alvernia dominated the play early in the extra frame forcing three saves from the Colonels. The Crusaders kept up the pressure and earned a penalty stroke for Liberto who buried it to end the game.
The Crusaders opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Senior
Melanie Lowry set up Wentzel on a corner play and the junior drive home her seventh goal of the season.
Wilkes tied the score 10 minutes into the second half and made a pair of saves to keep the score tied.
Rebecca Brosious made five saves to earn the win for the Crusaders.
Alvernia travels to Stockton University on Tuesday.
