Reading, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2015) - Sophomore
Kristen Sipling totaled a match-high 19 kills to lead Alvernia University (7-6, 2-1) to a 3-1 win over Arcadia University (3-7, 1-2) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's volleybal action at the Physical Education Center.
The Crusaders crept ahead early in the first set, leading the Knights 9-4. They held on to their comfortbal lead, winning the first set 25-17.
Brittany Troutman and
Laura Wachowicz led the charge in kills with three apiece in the opening set.
Alvernia kept the energy up, pulling ahead early in the second set 13-8. After the Knights surged back to tie the set at 14-14, Alvernia pulled back ahead following back-to-back kills from Sipling. Alvernia clinched the second set 25-16.
The third set was tight the whole way with Arcadia moving to set point at 24-22. The Crusaders leveled the match on a Wachowicz kill and an ace from
McKenna Achenbach, but Arcadia got the side out on a serving error and won the match on an Alvernia hitting error.
Wachowicz and Sipling opened the fourth set with two kills each. Alvernia was able to keep continue the success, winning the match with a fourth set score of 25-19.
Wachowicz reached double figures in kills with 13,
Abby O'Donnell had a match-high 28 assists, and Krissy Sillio finished with 13 digs.
Alvernia continues the season this Friday-Saturday at the York College Tournament.
