Wentzel Lead Offense, Collects Hat Trick

BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Sept. 30, 2015) - Alvernia University (5-4) notched three goals in the first half en route to a 5-1 win over Delaware Valley University (4-5) Wednesday evening in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

The Crusaders did not take long to get on the board, ripping their first goal of the night in the 4th minute. Margaret Wentzel, who contributed to every Alvernia goal on the night, collected the assist, pushing a pass from the left post to Malorie McCoy out in front. McCoy then found the back of the net for her first of the year.

Alvernia struck again three minutes later, with Wentzel feeding Andrea Wysocki out in front of the goal. Wysocki took the pass and lifted the shot just over the right leg of Aggie goalie Emily Aldridge to give the Crusaders the 2-0 lead.

Wentzel then moved from assists to goals, picking up her first of three with just under 4 minutes left in the half. On a breakaway, Wentzel ripped a drive across the front of the net, finding the far right corner to take the 3-0 advantage into the half.

Alvernia kept its offense alive in the second half, with Wentzel netting her second of the night in the 43rd minute off the set up from Natalie Messaros.

Delaware Valley notched its lone goal of the night with just three minute left of play, cutting into the Crusaders margin 4-1.

The Crusaders reestablished their four goal lead with a minute and a half left, as Wentzel used the pass from Summer Liberto to seal her hat trick and the 5-1 victory.

Alvernia dominated the game offensively, outshooting the Aggies 23-4 with 19 shots on goal.

Rebecca Brosious and Nicole Heinze shared time in goal, with Brosious earning the win on three saves in 59 minutes of work.

Alvernia continues its home stint on Saturday, hosting Widener University in MAC Commonwealth Conference action at 1:00.
