Baltimore, Md. (Sept. 6, 2015) – York College of Pennsylvania (1-2) scored twice in the first half en route to a 3-0 win over Alvernia University (1-2) in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon on day two of the Blue Jay Invitational, held at Johns Hopkins University.
The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the 21
st minute of play and doubled the lead eight minutes later on a Corie Elliot goal. They added a third goal in the 76
th minute as Elliot netted her second of the day.
Alvernia's offense had multiple scoring opportunities, launching ten attempts with seven on goal. The Crusaders also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Margaret Burnett started in goal for the Crusaders, collecting the loss as she surrendered two goals in her 45 minutes of work.
Jessica Plunkett played the second half and was solid as she allowed one goal while recording five saves.
Alvernia takes to the field again on Thursday, traveling to Penn State Berks for non-conference play.
