Reading, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2015) - Sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall (3-0) collected four goals in the second half, lifting it to a 7-2 victory over Alvernia University (2-1) Monday evening on Alvernia's Turf Field.
The Crusaders tied the game up 1-1 at the 11:30 mark as Alvernia capitalized on an open goal opportunity.
Margaret Wentzel forced pressure to Diplomat goalie Ashley Gubernick on a clear attempt, stealing the ball out from under her and pulling past an F&M defender to find the back of the net for her fourth of the season.
Franklin & Marshall tacked on the go ahead in the 18
th minute, and extended its lead ten minutes later to take a 3-1 advantage into the half.
After the Diplomats opened the second half with two goals,
Summer Liberto put Alvernia back on the board, ripping a penalty stroke towards the left side of the goal and cutting the lead 5-2.
Alvernia goalie Becca Brosious made nine saves on the night.
Alvernia returns to action on Thursday, hosting Misericordia at 7:00 on the Turf Field.
