Reading, Pa. (Oct. 12, 2016) – Alvernia University (14-0, 3-0) notched four second half goals to push the Crusaders to 14-game win streak and a 6-1 victory over Gettysburg College (4-6) Wednesday evening in non-conference field hockey action on Alvernia's turf field.
Gettysburg took a quick 1-0 lead, putting away its lone goal of the contest just a minute into play.
The Crusaders responded two minutes later, netting the 1-1 equalizer on a corner opportunity.
Margaret Wentzel pushed the short set up to
Malorie McCoy at right center, who drove in the tying shot.
Alvernia then pulled ahead 2-1 as McCoy struck again, this time taking the cross from
Taylor Dorrin and driving it through the legs of Arcadia's Ronnie Bridges back to the left side, where she found the inside of the post for her second goal of the half.
Wentzel provided the Crusaders with insurance four minutes into the second half, collecting her 15
th goal of the season. Receiving a corner insert at the top of the circle, Wentzel pulled past a trio of defenders to set up a clear shot from center, which she drove straight to the back of the net.
Alvernia was not finished, however, notching another goal a minute later. McCoy continued to be a strong offensive force for the Crusaders, this time earning an assist on a hard cross from the right side to
Alexis Krall, who deflected the pass into a clear net for her 8
th of the season and the 4-1 advantage.
Taylor Dorrin pushed the goal tally to five with 16 minutes left to play as she made the most of a penalty stroke, lifting the ball to the left side of the net past a diving Bridges.
Wentzel then tacked on her second goal on the matchup later in the half, carrying the ball from midfield to close center, where she slapped in her 89
th career goal. Wentzel now sits just four goals shy of tying the Alvernia record.

Laura Gingrich is one win away from reaching the 200 win milestone.
The Crusaders will look to claim that win on Saturday as take to their home turf again, hosting Stevenson University in MAC Commonwealth action for homecoming weekend. Game start is set for 11:00 a.m.
