Andrea Wysocki scored three goals to lead #16 Alvernia University (15-0, 4-0) to a 5-2 win over Stevenson University (3-9, 0-4) Saturday morning in MAC Commonweatlh Field Hockey action marking the 200th career win for head coach
Laura Gingrich.
Stevenson opened the scoring on an unassisted goal from Rosemarie Neiva in the 13th minute. For the second time in as many games the Crusaders responded quickly when
Alexis Krall collected a rebound in the 15th minute and netted her ninth of the year.
Wysocki scored back-to-back goals--both assisted by senior
Margaret Wentzel--to give the Crusaders a 3-1 lead at the halftime break. With two points, Wentzel pulled to within one of the all time career mark at Alvernia.
Stevenson cut the lead back down to a goal, 3-2, with a goal seven minutes into the second half, but
Malorie McCoy and Wysocki scored to give the Crusaders some insurance.
Gingrich, the career wins leader at Alvernia, improves to 200-124 (.617) in her 16th year as head coach. She has led the Crusaders to two conference titles in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, two ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region titles, and three NCAA appearances. She was named PAC Coach of the Year in 2007, and Commonwealth Coach of the Year in 2011. In 15 prior seasons she has coached four NFHCA All-Americans and 13 All-Region selections.
In the classroom, Gingrich's teams have earned NFHCA Team Academic Awards for 12 straight seasons.
