BOX SCORE 1 Reading, Pa (Oct. 22, 2016) - Alvernia University (9-15) won both matches of a Women's Volleyball tri-match Saturday afternoon on Jack McCloskey Court.
The Crusaders swept the first match on the day, beating Gwynedd - Mercy University (9-15) by a score of 3-0. The Griffins opened the contest with an early lead, but the Crusaders fought back and kept the score close midway through the first set. Alvernia rallied late in the set to capture the win, 25-18. Alvernia took the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-17. The Crusaders were led by Sophomore
Emily Smith with 15 kills and 18 digs.
Alvernia took the second match 3-0 as well, this time over The College of Saint Elizabeth (10-13). Alvernia put together a mid-game rally, scoring eight straight points to pull ahead 14-6 before finally taking the set 25-19. Alvernia dominated the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-14, to close out the match. The Crusaders were led by
Kristen Sipling with 12 kills.
Alvernia stays at home to finish out their conference schedule, facing Stevenson University on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
