Union, NJ. (Oct. 7, 2016) - Alvernia University (6-12) split both matches at the Kean University Volleyball Tournament Friday afternoon at Kean University.
Alvernia started the day off by losing its first match to The College of New Rochelle (8-8) by a score of 3-1. The Blue Angels jumped out to an early lead winning the first two sets by the scores of 25-23 and 30-28. Alvernia was down in the third set but with a mid-game rally helped push them to claim the win with a score of 25-18. New Rochelle won the fourth set to claim the match by a score of 25-23.
Kristen Sipling lead the Crusaders with 14 kills on the match.
Alvernia won the second match of the day over Baruch College (6-14) by a score of 3-1. The Crusaders took an early lead in the first set to help them claim the first set by a score of 25-16. The Bearcats rallied back to win the second set to even up the score 1-1. Alvernia then claimed the next two sets with the score of 27-25 and 25-16 to claim the match.
Emily Smith lead the Crusaders in the second match with 20 kills while Erika Mckee had 45 assists.
Alvernia stays at Kean University to compete in two more matches on Saturday to finish out the tournament.
