Drew Betters Crusaders, 65-37

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 15, 2016) – Drew University (1-0) put together a 19-3 second quarter run en route to a 65-37 win over Alvernia University (0-1) Tuesday evening in non-conference women's basketball action on Jack McCloskey Court.

Trailing 13-5 after the first 10 minutes, the Crusaders opened the second quarter with an Abbie Zerbe 3 to come within five. The Rangers then started their run, taking a 35-12 advantage into the half.

Liv Andrefski sparked Alvernia's offense to open the third quarter, draining a 3-pointer and a pair from the line before Kiersten Ingram collected her first collegiate points to close the gap 35-19. Drew answered back with an 8-0 run, but Maddie Thornton and Andrefski each put away a bucket from beyond the arc to break up the Rangers rhythm at 45-25. After a Thornton free-throw, Megan Bruno completed a three-point play to close out the quarter.

Drew continued to build on its 51-29 advantage in the final frame, capturing its largest margin of the night with a little over a minute left to play at 65-34.

Drew's defense proved to be the difference maker in the contest, forcing 20+ turnovers from the Crusaders' lead ball handlers.

Andrefski led the Crusaders offensively with 11 points. Sam Lane paced the Rangers with 17.

Alvernia takes to the road on Saturday, traveling to Mary Washington University for the Hyatt Place Tip Off Tournament. The Crusaders will open the tournament against Mary Washington on Saturday at 7:00 pm. Alvernia will face either Averett or Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday.
